We want to show people that unlike many other physical sports, BJJ is not all about strength, it is about technique and your approach. You do not have to be the strongest person to defeat your opponent.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14675836442372016732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063139760636220776.post-67769990399386152492014-01-15T18:36:54.298-05:002014-01-15T18:36:54.298-05:00I am a 40 year old purple belt at Gracie Barra New...I am a 40 year old purple belt at Gracie Barra New Mexico and there is little doubt in my mind that youth is a benefit to some of the younger guys. I continuously strive to roll smarter not harder. I have come to realize that with more and more technique I have less of a challenge with young white and blue belts regardless of their size or age. I have rolled with brown and black belts that were older than I and they could kick my ass and steal my lunch any day of the week. I'm sure that at some point age can and will become a factor however, for now I play smart. I reserve my energy and try to tire younger guys out till I see my chain of moves open up and then turn it up. I believe it is extremely important to know and understand where you are safe and relax your body and mind while they flail, struggle, and grunt. <br />I believe that by the time age becomes a real challenge I will have gained the knowledge to easily handle the young lower belt guys and the guys closer to my level of game will understand the difference between competition sparing and the rolling chess game. (I have to admit that there is no deigning it is awesome knowing that you have the knowledge and skills to spar and beat someone half your age)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15085998605257468109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063139760636220776.post-87350329075926554492012-09-21T19:47:10.271-04:002012-09-21T19:47:10.271-04:00I just turned 40 and I just started BJJ. I tried taking 3 classes in a week and I suffered from overtraining. As a result, I got a cold from my weakend immune system. I had to take 2 days off work. I'm going to go back to training ony 2 days per week until my body adapts. On my first week, I only took 1 class because rolling got me so sore. Then week 2 I took 2 classes. Week 3 I tried 3 classes but I overtrained. My back is bad too. I cannot buck. My spinal cord feels like a bag of broken glass. I tell my training partners to take it easy.kun6fu.pandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17086786690007559733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063139760636220776.post-79474325340358872932012-04-06T18:34:50.434-04:002012-04-06T18:34:50.434-04:00Brilliant read, brilliant blog .

BJJ, while it has a strong competative component, is not all about being the best in the world. It's a way of life. My intention is to keep training as long as I can for fun, health, and the challenge of it.DadJitsuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04809813821606887706noreply@blogger.com
